Questa volta la competizione riguarda appunto le capacità di movimento dei droni in zone disastrate.
La prossima prova si terrà il 16 Aprile: un grande in bocca al lupo da tutto interesting seminar, “How robots see: from autonomous cars to drones”, on the principles of operation of autonomous robots (automobiles and drones) and the role of computer vision.

After a general introduction on autonomous robots and their history, Davide talked about the latest news on drones and explained his main field of interest.
In particular, he explained the use of visual odometry: thanks to this technique it is possible to let a drone move independently in an unknown space, using a single camera, without laser and without GPS.
In this way, the robot has a unique instrument of perception on board and can as well effectively reconstruct the surrounding space through the identification of particular points (corners) within the photographic plane, and then decide the trajectory to follow to reach a given target.

Davide and his team were also selected to participate in the most important robotics competition in the world: the DARPA Flying Challenge 2015-2018, organized by DARPA (US Defence Department), which is giving away a bunch of dollars to the winner.
This time the competition concerns autonomous, high-speed navigation of drones in cluttered environments.
The next round will be held on April 16th: a big good luck from
